Parade rest?

MNFI:

U.S. Marines with 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Command Staff wait for Gen. Robert Magnus, the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps, to disembark from an MV-22B Osprey aircraft on Al Asad Air Base, Iraq, Dec. 22, 2007. Magnus is visiting U.S. troops in the area. U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Michael L. Haas.
There is no word on what the second Marine from the left is holding, but it is definitely not the standard "parade rest" position.

  1. This is Cpl Haas, since I took the picture, let me tell you what is going on... As for the "word" on what the Marine is holding... That Marine is Sergeant Major Bell, the Sergeant Major of 2D MAW (FWD), and he is simply folding his hands and not holding anything. The fact that the other Marines are in the "parade rest" position is simply a coincidence; there is no set standard on how a Marine must stand while waiting for an aircraft to taxi.
