Senate tax bill would mean people would not be required to buy Obamacare

CNBC:
Senate's GOP tax reform bill seeks repeal of Obamacare individual mandate

  • Senate GOP leaders said their tax reform bill will include repeal of Obamacare individual mandate
  • The mandate requires most Americans to have some form of health coverage during the year or pay a tax penalty.
  • An estimated 13 million fewer people would have insurance if the mandate were to be repealed, the Congressional Budget Office has estimated.
What they really mean is that 13 million people would choose not to buy Obamacare.  They could still buy it if they want to.   The suggestion that fewer people would have coverage is trying to sell the premise that it is being taken away, when in fact, the person now has a choice over what healthcare insurance if any,  the person wants.
