Immigration policy needs to be based on something besides empathy--Where is limiting principle?

How many of Mexican and Central Americans will the US have to place on its welfare rolls before liberals understand that it is not sustainable?  I am sure there are plenty of sob stories for the front page of the Post where editors think Americans should pick up the bill for anyone who shows up.
