China offers some trade concessions to Trump

NY Times:

China Expected to Offer Trade Concessions: Up to $200 Billion

  • Chinese negotiators are preparing to offer the U.S. a mammoth package of promises to buy more American goods.
  • It’s a bid to pare down the trade deficit between the two countries and to defuse President Trump’s aggressive moves. But economists are skeptical of any Chinese promises.
The way to deal with the skepticism is to include triggers in the deal that will go into place automatically if the targets are not met.  So far, Trump has managed to get several concessions from China on its unfair tariffs.  This looks like more progress.
